Random personal opinion: spin kills credibility and thus damages if not destroys the ability to have conversations and even debates. If your argument is provably factually inaccurate it doesn't matter how "right" you are, the conversation is done and nobody believes you.
That's why even when I understand the justifications for it and may agree with the POV of the person sharing the spin, I still hate spin. It's counterproductive. And I'd rather arguments I agree with not include spin. Because it ruins the point and keeps it from actually being heard and understood.
Just my opinion. I can see merits of it, but I hate it. Especially when "my side" does it.
It's probably also sometimes a necessary evil. But it's still like nails on a chalkboard for me.
