Being that the Statue of Liberty was a popular movement and not a state gift (something I didn't know until touring it last year, even though I think that was the third time in my life I'd toured the statue), this doesn't make a ton of sense, but who cares because the sentiment is right.
(To be clear in absence of tone of voice: Not sarcastic, pretty much anything shitty said about the US is well placed at the moment.)
